Each year 1 in 3 pets is injured or becomes ill* and needs urgent veterinary treatment. Insurance can help you cover the cost of these unexpected bills leaving you free to concentrate on helping an important member of your family recover.

ID Chips

ID chips are highly recommended for all pets which could potentially go astray. The most common animal presented for ID chip implantation besides the dog and cat is the beloved family tortoise! The chip itself is a similar size to a gain of rice and is implanted via a needle under the skin on the back of the neck. Puppies and kittens can have a microchip implanted at any time after weaning. The government is bringing in compulsory microchipping for all dogs from the 6th April 2016.

Veterinary surgeries, rescue centres and dog wardens have hand held scanners which are able to read the implant’s unique 15 digit number. This number is linked on a national database to the owners contact details. Only certain organisations are able to access this database. It is not available to the general public. After your animal has been microchipped you will receive confirmation by post that your details have been entered on the database. It is vitally important that you notify Identichip if you change your address. A microchip that is linked to outdated information is useless.
Even if a dog is ID chipped the owner is still required by law to ensure that it is wearing a collar and ID tag with the owners name and address when it is in a public space.
